Dillard joins field of candidates for Illinois governor

Republican State Senator Kirk Dillard joined the growing list of people interested in becoming the next governor of Illinois.

Republican State Senator Kirk Dillard joined the growing list of people interested in becoming the next governor of Illinois.

Dillard made his formal announcement Monday, July 15, 2013 in front of his boyhood home in Chicago.  Dillard also planned stops that day in the Quad Cities, Decatur, Peoria, Murphysboro, Rockford and Lombard.   His campaign includes a website and social media presence on Twitter and Facebook.

Dillard is currently a state senator, representing the 24th District which includes DuPage and Will counties.

Incumbent Governor Pat Quinn has not yet announced whether he will seek another term.

Illinois Treasurer Dan Rutherford announced his candidacy June 2, 2013.

Former Obama chief of staff Bill Daley announced in early June 2013 that he was also exploring a bid to become the next governor of Illinois.
