Residents in three local Illinois counties can apply for help with summer cooling costs beginning Monday, July 15, 2013.

Rock Island, Mercer and Henry County (Illinois) residents who qualify may apply at Project Now office locations.

To qualify for assistance through LIHEAP (Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program), household income must be equal to or less than 150 percent of the poverty level.  Qualifying households include those with family members who have medical conditions aggravated by extreme heat, families with children under the age of five and seniors who are 60 and older.

The LIHEAP Summer Cooling Program provides a one-time payment of $150 to electric providers on behalf of qualifying households.  Applications will be accepted for the program beginning July 15, 2013 and ending July 26, 2013 or when program funds are exhausted.

To apply, call a Project NOW office to make an appointment.  Their Rock Island office can be reached at (309) 793-6391; the Moline office is at (309) 764-8092; the Henry County office is at (309) 852-4565 and the Mercer County office is at (309) 582-2644.
