Blue skies, green grass, and dusty dirt… The three things came together for a perfect day to play ball and to honor a man who helped put the Green Valley Sports Complex in Moline on the map.
On Saturday, July 13, 2013, the complex became officially re-named as the Milt Hand Softball Complex.
The late Milt Hand served as Park Director, but people at Saturday’s dedication ceremony say he will be remembered for his large contributions to the park and the game of softball.
“Milton was very instrumental in bringing the national tournaments to this area,” says Roger Clawson with the Moline Park Board. “We traveled and got those and built the concession stands. The back stops and the stadiums and much of what you see today, we worked together in putting this on.”
Milt also served as an umpire for 35 years.
