Tied for third place at the end of Round One in the John Deere Classic is a far cry from where Matt Bettencourt thought he would be on this day.
On Wednesday, July 10, 2013, the pro golfer was on a plane headed for another tournament when he got a surprising phone call.
“I didn’t think I was going to get in,” he said. “Then the tour office from Atlanta called but I was already on the plane going to Salt Lake City.”
Bettencourt was able to catch a plane back to Chicago, and then drove to Moline arriving nearly before midnight on the night before Round One of the John Deere Classic.
News 8 asked if this was his new pre-tournament routine.
“Yes, it’s a good idea,” Bettencourt said sarcastically with laughter. “No, no.”
