Rangers in California’s Death Valley National Park hope visitors will resist the temptation to try to fry eggs in the desert heat.

Temperatures in Death Valley often soar above 110 degrees in summer, and they have exceeded 120 degrees in recent weeks.

An employee posted video of an egg frying in a pan in Death Valley, to illustrate how hot it can get there.  The demonstrator in the video recommends that anyone wishing to try frying an egg in the desert sun do so using a skillet, saying that doing it on the ground “just makes a mess.”

Now, rangers say, it’s becoming a problem that is happening so frequently, they posted a plea on Facebook, asking park visitors to put trash in bins provided and to avoid cracking eggs on the sidewalks.

“Death Valley NP maintenance crew has been busy cleaning up eggs cracked directly on the sidewalk, including egg cartons and shells strewn across the parking lot,” the Facebook post said.

One comment on the thread suggested rangers sell an egg-frying kit in the park’s gift shop to help curb the messes left by eggs cracked on the ground.
