The outdoor warning siren went off several times in the middle of the night in Charlotte, Iowa.
Clinton County Emergency Management Coordinator Chance Kness said the siren “spontaneously activated several times” between about 1:20 and 1:40 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2013.
“There was no danger of severe weather or any other emergency at the time of the siren activation,” Kness said.
Power was shut off to the malfunctioning siren at 2 a.m. to prevent further false activations.
“A maintenance crew will inspect the siren as soon as possible in order to determine a cause and repair any problems,” Kness said.
