Wednesday night, the Davenport city council voted to shut down one lane of a busy street to make way for parking. Alderman approved a proposal to allow parking along the west side of Harrison Street from 18th to 5th Street.
The parking change along the 13 to the 17 block stretch is intended to add extra convenience for people visiting businesses in the hilltop campus village.
Major Bill Gluba says the city is growing and this is one of the ways that they can support that.
“We are a vibrant growing community. We are seeing more and more investment in Davenport. We simply want to continue that progress and this is how you continue that progress, to provide decent parking for people,” Gluba says.
Mayor Gluba says that the parking should be in place by the end of summer.
