Even though a few thunderstorms are anticipated later today and tonight, my biggest concern is the activity expected to slide across the local area later Tuesday into Tuesday night.
A cool front around the Northern Plains will interact with this stifling heat and humidity creating a healthy line of thunderstorms. What may make these storms severe is a strong jet aloft that will positioned itself just to our north in a west to east fashion. Not only will this create larger vertical growth within the storm but the potential to rotate. I’m not to worry about any tornadoes during this period but strong winds clocked over 60 mph may rush down from the storm.
With the help from the Storm Prediction Center, there is a 30% chance that these storms could reach that level in our local area. So remember, you can always be up-to-date on this potential threat by checking out this website, our WQAD Facebook page or our very popular News 8 app. We’ll keep a eye to the sky. :)
