Smoke detectors helped a couple and their two granddaughters escape safely from a burning house in Burlington, Iowa.

The fire was reported just before 9 a.m. Monday, July 8, 2013 at a home in the 400 block of north Third Street.

Firefighters said light smoke was visible from the second floor of the home when they arrived.

The cause of the fire was not yet determined.  Initial reports indicated the cause did not appear to be suspicious.

Damage was estimated at $60,000 to the structure plus $40,000 to the contents of the home.

The Burlington couple who own the home and their two granddaughters escaped unharmed.
