A breast cancer survivor is reaching out to local women battling breast cancer.
Martha Lowery-Betts celebrated the grand opening of her care center in Moline on Friday and Saturday, July 5 and 6. Who’s That Lady Breast Cancer Support Center provides customer care, wig cuts and styling, and other beauty services like eyebrow care, facials and makeup application.
Lowery-Betts said cancer treatment and medication can have an effect on a patient’s skin, and her center is a place where anyone can come to relax and get personal care to build confidence.
“You want to look like you’re not sick,” she said. “I feel like, if you look good, you feel good.”
For those who cannot afford certain care items, Lowery-Betts said she can work with customers to attempt to get them what they need through donations or financial assistance.
She hopes to start group therapy sessions, in addition to the personal care. Lowery-Betts said she would like to see a group of younger and older women get together to discuss issues related to treatment or other personal matters.
“I want to be able to help someone else,” Lowery-Betts said. “That’s what it’s all about.”
The center is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
As of November of 2012, Lowery-Betts became a 16-year breast cancer survivor.
