According to WGN, a firework flew into the crowd watching a fireworks display at a park on the southwest side of Chicago on Thursday, July 4, 2013. It hit 36-year-old Lorena Perez and her 32-year-old sister-in-law, Kristina in their legs.

Kristina lost her left foot at the ankle and Lorena broke her leg and suffered serious burns to the lower portion of her body, according to the report. Family members believe Kristina may lose her right leg below the knee as well.
