An Iowa property owner says a raccoon may be to blame for fire that destroyed his barn.

KJAN reports firefighters were called to a barn fire at Indian Creek Farms near Atlantic, Iowa just after 9 a.m. Monday, July 1, 2013.

Property owner Doug Redinbaugh and his son were burning trees and debris from previous storms.  Mice ran from the burn pile, and Redinbaugh reportedly said he thought a raccoon living in the storm debris may have caught fire before running into the barn, setting it ablaze.

Although winds were not very strong at the time of the fire, investigators were still exploring the possibility that embers from the burn pile may have caused the barn fire.

The barn housed tires, saddles, hay racks and antiques.  The barn and its contents were a total loss, with fire destroying the building in less than an hour.

No injuries were reported.
