Iowa Supreme Court to reconsider case of woman fired for being too “irresistible”

An Iowa woman who was fired after a decade on the job for being too “irresistible” is getting another chance at a gender discrimination lawsuit.

An Iowa woman who was fired after a decade on the job for being too “irresistible” is getting another chance at a sex-discrimination lawsuit after the Iowa Supreme Court ruled to reconsider the case.

According to a report by ABC News, Melissa Nelson, from Fort Dodge, Iowa worked as a dental hygienist for ten years when her boss, Dr. James Knight fired her, claiming she was a threat to his marriage.

In December of 2012, an all-male Iowa State Supreme Court decided that when Knight fired Nelson, he was within his legal rights. They ruled that the termination was not gender-based. Knight’s attorney said firing Nelson was legal and believes the court will confirm its original ruling, according to the report.

Nelson is hoping that the ruling will change.

“I can tell you she was surprised and delighted by the news that the Iowa Supreme Court has withdrawn its earlier ruling,” said Nelson’s attorney, Paige Fiedler. “Not only does this breathe new life into her court case, it eliminates what many of us believed was a harmful legal and misguided precedent.”
