Fluffy cows make their way to Rock Island County

The standard cow just isn’t cutting it anymore and people in the cattle industry are working to “fluff-up” their cows.

At the Rock Island County Fair, “fluffy-cows” are on display. To create the fluffy-effect, cows spend a little time in a cool environment and are given cold baths to stimulate hair growth, creating their fuzzy appearance.

“It’s a craze that’s catching on,” said Rylee Derrer, who raises fluffy cows. “The cattle industry fluffs up their cattle to make them look bigger boned, bigger bodied, bigger haired, it’s just bigger is better I guess you could say.”

The fluffy cows and other livestock will be at the Rock Island County Fair in East Moline, Illinois until Saturday, June 29, 2013.
