Scott County shelter receives donation of thousands

The Scott County Humane Society was chosen as one of 50 shelters to receive thousands in supplies and donations.

The Scott County Humane Society was chosen as one of 50 shelters to receive thousands in supplies and donations.

As part of the Purina Cat Chow “50 Years, 50 Shelters” program, the Scott County Humane Society is getting $1,221 and a Care Package valued at $1,000. The Care Package includes cat food, cat litter, and general cat care items like toys, beds, scratching posts, and food dishes, according to a spokesperson from Purina Cat Chow.

One shelter in each state has been selected as a recipient of the donations from the cat food brand. Purina is donating a total of $225,000 worth of supplies and money to the shelters. The “50 Years, 50 Shelters” program is to help celebrate the brand’s 50th anniversary.

The program is providing the donations via online voting which recognized shelters dedication to the animals and adoptions.

“We want to thank the thousands of cat people and cat supporters across the country who joined our 50 year celebration by voting for their state’s local shelter,” said Vincent Biroscak, Purina Cat Chow brand director.

Starting in May, customers could vote online and pledge to donate anywhere from $1 to $1,000 per shelter. According to Purina Cat Chow, the brand reached their donation goal of $1,000 for each shelter in just three weeks. By voting, the company said, customers helped raise a total of $75,000 for the 50 participating shelters.
