(CNN) — A judge in Cleveland ordered a competency hearing for Ariel Castro, the man accused of holding three women captive for about a decade, the Cuyahoga County prosecutor’s office confirmed Thursday.
Judge Michael Russo ordered Castro to undergo a mental health evaluation for competency at a pretrial hearing Wednesday. The next court date is a pretrial hearing scheduled for next Wednesday morning.
Castro, 52, was accused of holding the women in his Cleveland home. He faces 329 counts, including one count of aggravated murder for allegedly causing the unlawful termination of a pregnancy.
