UPDATE 7:27 am Thursday: The Muscatine Police Department has not released details on the worker injured in Monday's storm.
As previously reported, one person at the Krieger Auto Group was injured Monday during the storms. Workers from the repair shop were seen surveying some of the damage Tuesday morning. They are not commenting on the situation.
Monday Night Story: The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a tornado warning in Muscatine Monday afternoon, but it wasn't until roughly :10 minutes after the storm began to cause damage.
"It was a lot of crashing and a lot of noise," Jennifer Bower told News 8. "It came fast-- it happened pretty rapidly."
The storm developed so fast just after 3:00 p.m., no sirens were sounded-- a trained spotter reported seeing a tornado to the NWS.
"We saw limbs flying around the air and heard this big "whooshing" sound," Faith Henrichs told News 8, "and it was pretty much over after that."
When the storm was gone, plenty of damage remained: a worker was injured at Krieger Auto Group; part of the roof was torn off the AmericInn; windows were shattered at the Kent Corporation; and Calvary Church sustained damage to a wall and roof.
"We have a fair amount of damage on the west end of the facility," said Andy Emmert at Calvary Church. "There's a pretty good hole in the west side where the auditorium's at."
Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad is scheduled to visit Muscatine Tuesday morning to assess the damage, as the National Weather Service works to officially determine whether a tornado touched down in the storm. Governor Branstad will visit Krieger, Calvary Church, and the Menards building at 8:20 Tuesday morning.
Everyone else? They were hard at work cleaning up as soon as the rain stopped falling.
"It's amazing already," Emmert said of the response. "We've had hundreds of phone calls by now from church members who want to help. Right now, we're making a plan of attack on how we clean up."
