An area man accused of a deadly weekend shooting in Davenport says he will not fight extradition back to Scott County.

Albert "A.J" Coats was arrested Saturday in Milan, and is charged with second degree murder in the death of Amanda Abbott, 25.

Coats made a brief appearance in a Rock Island County courtroom to sign a waiver of extradition.

Afterwards, friends of both Coats and the victim contend it was an accidental shooting.

"There was a bullet stuck in the chamber and he was trying to get it loose and it went off", said one woman after court.

"It was a freak accident. Lives are ruined and lost and I know he feels bad and he's scared", said Nancy Hoffman. "Everyone was intoxicated, he didn't know how to handle it properly and she got shot." she said.

Abbott and Coats were friends and hanging out with a circle of other friends at her home Saturday night when the shooting occurred.

Police have not commented on their account of what happened.

Coats is also charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.
