A Dubuque, Iowa woman is accused of trying to hire someone to kill her father.
Police said they were contacted by several people who reported an ad on Craigslist, posted by 23-year-old Megan Schmidt of Dubuque. The ad offered $10,000 payment for an undisclosed job, and callers were reportedly told up front that it was a murder-for-hire.
When they sent an undercover officer to meet Schmidt, police said Schmidt gave the undercover officer a photo of her father and asked to have him killed.
Schmidt was arrested Sunday, June 23, 2013. She was accused of attempted murder and solicitation to commit murder.
Schmidt was held in the Dubuque County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash-only bond.
