Damaging storms set record for rainfall

A new record for rainfall was set in Moline with storms that moved through Monday, June 24, 2013.

A new record for rainfall was set in Moline with storms that moved through Monday, June 24, 2013.

The former record was set in 1993 when 3.65 inches of rain fell June 24 that year.

The new record set June 24, 2013 is 4.42 inches of rain recorded at Quad City International Airport in Moline.

A trained spotter reported a 70 miles per hour wind gust in Sterling at about 4:30 p.m.   A trained spotter reported 70 miles per hour wind gusts just south of Wapello at about 3 p.m.

Law enforcement reported a tornado on the ground just south of Mechanicsville in Cedar County just after 3 p.m.     The north side of Muscatine was also struck by a tornado that was confirmed by law enforcement just before 3:30 p.m.

Officials at the Muscatine Municipal Airport reported 51 miles per hour wind gusts at about 3:15 p.m.

Tree damage was widespread in our area, with heavy damage reported in Bureau, Henry and Rock Island counties.

Emergency crews reported a large tree on a house in Rock Falls just after 4:30 p.m.
