You may have seen something strange crossing over the Mississippi River today.

Local artist, Dean Kugler, has been working around the clock the past few days to complete a massive sculpture for the One State Together in the Arts Convention, which starts on Monday, June 24th, 2013 at the iWireless Center in Moline.

There's only one problem. Dean has been working on the sculpture at his studio at the Bucktown Center for the Arts, which is located in downtown Davenport.

On Sunday, June 23rd, 2013, Dean loaded up a pick-up truck with a 9-foot tall ballerina sculpture and drove it across the river to downtown Moline.

Luckily, it got to its resting place in one piece. It will be seen by more than 250 artists and art supporters at this week's convention. Dean says he hopes his finished product is meaningful to every person who sees it.

"It's about what's going on in your life or anything like that when you don't have vision to distract you in your surroundings, but for me it's probably more about the juxtaposition between strength and weakness."

After the convention, the ballerina has another road trip ahead of her. Dean says she's going on display in Cedar Rapids next.
