Youth program works to bring art to Davenport

A group is working to brighten up Harrison Street in Davenport.

The Quad City Arts Metro Youth Program is working on a mural on the street to send a message to all who travel through.

The theme for the project is called “create your own sanctuary” and the plan for the mural is to show an octopus holding a pencil, planning to draw itself a home.

“The road goes straight into downtown,” said Jillian Jespersen, member of the program. “It’s a place where if people see this maybe they’ll be able to think, ‘oh I can create a home here since this weird little octopus is drawing itself a home, maybe Davenport can be my home. Maybe I can draw my home here.’”

The group plans to have the project completed by July 12.
