A Kewanee, Illinois woman faces criminal charges after a dozen dead dogs were found in her home.

Marta Alice Ceja, 42, is accused of knowingly withholding food from the dogs for a month before the animals were found in a house she rented in the 400 block of East Tenth Street in Kewanee.

Court records show Ceja is charged with felony aggravated cruelty to animals, misdemeanor cruelty to animals and misdemeanor violation of animal owner duties.  She was also charged with felony theft of property valued at less than $500.

Ceja made her first appearance in Henry County Court on Wednesday, June 19, 2013.  She was released from the Henry County Jail after posting 10% of her $15,000 bond.   A preliminary hearing in the case was set for July 8.
