A Rock Island County Sheriff’s Department SUV rear-ended a Ford Mustang in a crash on 221st Street in Port Byron, Illinois.

The crash was reported at about 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 20, 2013 in the 6500 block of 221st Street.

Illinois State Police said the deputy was enroute to an emergency call, with lights and siren activated, when the deputy driving moved left to try to pass a Ford Mustang that was also traveling in the same direction on 221st Street.

Police said the Mustang pulled into the same lane as the deputy’s SUV, and the SUV rear-ended the Mustang.

A woman who said she saw the crash reported there were no lights or sirens activated on the deputy’s vehicle when the wreck happened.

Drivers of both vehicles were taken to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
