1 killed when Iowa brothers collide on jet skis

One brother was killed and another injured when they collided as they each rode separate personal watercraft on the Cedar River.

A statement from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources said the collision happened at about 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2013 Near Ellis Park in Cedar Rapids.

Michael Paulsen, 53 and his brother, 56-year-old Gary Paulsen, both of Cedar Rapids, collided.   Bystanders helped police and fire department responders pull the men from the river after the crash.

Both men were taken to an area hospital, and Michael Paulsen later died.

Gary Paulsen was reportedly released from the hospital after being treated for his injuries.

An online obituary said Michael Paulsen loved being around the water.

Services for Michael Paulsen were planned for June 22 in Cedar Rapids.
