The National Weather Service survey team says a half-mile-wide EF2 tornado traveled six miles when it damaged trees, buildings and injured one person in Carroll County, Illinois.
The tornado was part of a storm that moved from Jo Daviess to Carroll County at about 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2013. Police said they received numerous reports of funnel cloud sightings as the storm progressed.
A storm survey team assessed damages Thursday, June 13 and determined the tornado was an EF2. On the Enhanced Fujita (EF) scale, an EF2 tornado has wind speeds between 111 and 135 miles per hour.
“The path of the tornado was well defined with significant tree damage,” said the report posted on the NWS website. “Several farm outbuildings were damaged and one house was pushed off its foundation.”
The tornado track began six miles north of Savanna and ended four miles west of Mt. Carroll.
One person was injured in the storm.
