Illinois State Police arrested a California man after a police K-9 reportedly found 31 pounds of marijuana in the man’s vehicle.
A state police trooper stopped a black Chevrolet Impala on eastbound Interstate 80 about three miles west of Geneseo, Illinois at 8 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2013. Police said the vehicle was stopped for improper lighting and an obstructed windshield.
“A State Police K-9 alerted to the vehicle. The ensuing search revealed 31 pounds of cannabis hidden inside the vehicle,” according to Illinois State Police spokesman Trooper Jason Wilson.
The driver, 58-year-old Russell Taylor of Ojai, California was arrested.
Online records show Taylor was charged with cannabis trafficking, possession of cannabis and manufacturing/delivery of cannabis. All of the charges involve more than 5,000 grams of cannabis and all are felony charges.
Taylor was appointed a public defender and was next scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing June 17, 2013.
Taylor was held in the Henry County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bond.
