As we get closer to summer, one competitive group held its championship event in a much cooler climate.

The Figure Skating Club of the Quad Cities wrapped up its 17th Annual Quad City Championship at the River’s Edge recreation facility in Davenport over the weekend of June 7, 2013.

In total, 21 skating clubs from Iowa and Illinois participated in the competition, which was part of the Illinois Grand Prix Series. During the series skaters who medal earn points toward an invitational competition later in the year.

The Figure Skating Club of the Quad Cities won nine gold medals, 11 silver medals, and eight bronze.

According to a spokesperson from the club, donations from sponsors are to thank for the success of the club’s competition. Mississippi Valley Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, P.C., Victor Schmidt, Advance Homes, Inc., Molyneaux Insurance, Inc. , Institute of Therapeutic Massage & Wellness, Katz, Huntoon & Fieweger, P.C., Top O’ the Morning Bed and Breakfast Inn and a number of Friends of the Figure Skating Club of the Quad Cities sponsor the group. Volunteers from the club and community also make the Quad City Championships a success with their hard work and hospitality.
