Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure events cancelled in seven cities

The Susan G. Komen Quad Cities Race for the Cure is still on, but many future races have been cancelled.

The Susan G. Komen Quad Cities Race for the Cure is still on, but many future races have been cancelled.

On Saturday, June 8, 2013 thousands of runners and walkers will participate in the event, a race similar to seven that were cancelled in various cities for 2014. According to WGN, the Chicago, Phoenix, Boston, Cleveland, Tampa Bay, San Fransisco, and Washington races were cancelled.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure said participation for its three-day walks dropped by 37-percent over the last four years.

The race on Saturday will take place at the iWireless Center. A treadmill, bed, and other items will be raffled off in the Pink Ribbon Raffle.

Proceeds from the race help find a cure for breast cancer and help local women pay for medical screenings, according to a spokesperson from the event.
