After they dutifully followed their mama across a street, four ducklings got trapped when they fell into a storm sewer in Bettendorf, Iowa.

Bettendorf Public Works crews and neighbors spent about an hour and a half working to save the ducklings after they fell into a storm drain on Sixth Street near River Drive at about 8 a.m. Thursday, June 6, 2013.

After calling the city for help, neighbors were able to rescue three of the ducklings with a net.  It took Public Works crews about a half hour to capture the fourth duckling, using that same net.

“I'm glad we could get him out, said Joe Bluhm of Bettendorf, “So, yeah, it's not something you think you'd wake up to on a Thursday morning, but it brings the neighborhood together anyways, right?”

Public Works crews say this happens a lot during the spring.

Ruth McCorran, who was first to spot the trapped ducks, says she is just happy they are ok.

“I didn't intend to raise such a commotion, but I was glad we got the ducks,” McCorran said.
