While a measure to legalize medical marijuana in Illinois awaited the governor’s signature, some pet owners said it was missing important provisions.

Eighteen states have already legalized medical marijuana for humans.

Some people are also using marijuana for medicinal purposes on their pets.

One woman said she used marijuana and soda to help her cat maintain its weight while the animal went through chemotherapy.

Sometimes, it’s too much.  Calls to the state’s animal poison control hotline have increased ten to 15 percent in the past six months.

For now, the idea of making some pet provision in any bill legalizing medical marijuana is not likely.
