About a dozen girls living at a Davenport Salvation Army shelter got star treatment, courtesy of Miss Iowa contestants.

The girls got their hair and makeup done and even got to wear crowns.

Pageant contestants say the experience was rewarding for them as well.

"They are so excited.  I had a little girl just say to me.. I've always wanted to be a princess.  Thank you so much for coming.  It's fun to be able to put on makeup and paint their nails and get them all dressed up and just see their reaction,” said Savannah Necker, Miss Iowa’s Outstanding Teen 2012.

The Miss Iowa Pageant will be held June 6 – 8 at the Adler Theatre in Davenport.
