The OfficeMax location in Clinton, Iowa is expected to close by the end of June 2013.

The Clinton Herald reports the store, which employs 16 people, is slated to shut down June 29, 2013.  Fixtures from the store will be sold at a separate sale, tentatively set for July 10 and 11.

The Clinton store is one of about 20 OfficeMax locations in the U.S. that will close this year.   ImPress printing customers will have to transfer their accounts to the Davenport, Iowa location or the store in Moline, Illinois.

OfficeMax closed 46 locations in the U.S. in 2012.

In its May 7 first quarter financial results report, OfficeMax company officials confirmed the plan to close 15 to 20 stores, and relocate or downsize others as it works toward a concept of stores occupying smaller square footage locations.   Retail sales for OfficeMax were down more than 7% in first quarter 2013 compared to the same period in 2012.

Daily Finance.com reports the company announced plans to close 15 to 20 stores every year starting in 2012 and continuing through 2016.

OfficeMax, which is headquartered in Naperville, Illinois, announced in February 2013 plans to merge with Office Depot.  That merger is still under Federal Trade Commission review, and the company expected to complete the deal by the end of the year.
