Heavy rainfall over the Midwest during the week of May 27, 2013 has resulted in potential flooding on area rivers.
The National Weather Service has issued flood warnings for the Mississippi and Wapsipinicon Rivers.
The Wapsipinicon River
- at DeWitt 4S there was major flooding reported as the river was at 13.5 feet Tuesday. Flood stage there is 11 feet. The river was undergoing a broad crest Tuesday morning, and high water on the Mississippi was expected to prolong the crest. The Wapsi was forecast to fall to 13.2 feet Wednesday. Residences along the river are affected.
- was six feet above flood stage and falling Sunday, June 2 at Anamosa Shaw Road. The water level had fallen to 16.2 feet Tuesday morning, and flood stage there is 14 feet. The river was forecast to fall below 15 feet Tuesday night and below flood stage Wednesday.
The Mississippi River
- surpassed the 15-foot flood stage at Illinois City Lock and Dam 16 on Sunday, June 2. Water levels were at 16.8 feet Tuesday morning, and moderate flooding was occuring. At 17 feet, water affects the Buffalo Shores access area. Water was expected to begin to recede Wednesday evening.
- was forecast to rise to flood stage at LeClaire Lock and Dam 14 on Wednesday. Flood stage there is 11 feet, and that's when water would affect the lowest roads and some back yards on Campbell's Island. Homes along the river in Pleasant Valley and Cordova may also be affected.
- at Camanche a flood warning was in effect until Wednesday. Flood stage there is 17 feet, and the water was at 17.4 feet Tuesday morning. Low-lying residences at Albany were affected.
- at Rock Island Lock and Dam 15, moderate flooding was forecast. Flood stage there is 15 feet and the water was at 16.2 feet Tuesday morning. The river was forecast to rise to 16.4 feet thursday morning and then begin falling. Water is affecting Credit Island Lane in Davenport and the 4700 block of River Drive in Moline. Water was at the base of the flood wall gates at the downtown Rock Island riverport Tuesday morning.
- at Muscatine was at 18.6 feet Tuesday morning. Flood stage there is 16 feet. The river was forecast to rise to 18.8 feet Wednesday and then begin to fall. Most of the Riverside Park parking lot is affected.
- at Fulton Lock and Dam 13 was forecast to rise to flood stage on Wednesday morning.
- is forecast to crest on Thursday morning at Gladstone Lock and Dam 18. Flood stage there is 10 feet and the water was at 15.5 feet Tuesday morning. The river was forecast to rise to 16.1 feet Thursday morning.
- at Burlington, flood stage is 15 feet and the water was at 20 feet Tuesday morning. The river was forecast to rise to 20.3 feet Wednesday and then begin to fall. At 20 feet, water reaches the front steps of the Burlington Municipal Auditorium and affects industries at the south end of Burlington. Water also affects most of Riverview Park in Fort Madison.
- at Keithsburg was at 18.2 feet Tuesday. Flood stage there is 14 feet. The water was forecast to rise to 18.4 feet Thursday and then begin to fall. At 18-feet water affects Oquawka's Marina Drive south of town.
- was slightly above flood stage at Dubuque on Sunday and falling. The river is expected to fall below flood stage on Wednesday evening.
- at Keokuk Lock and Dam 19 was at 19.1 feet Tuesday morning. Flood stage there is 16 feet. The water was forecast to rise to 19.6 feet Thursday evening and then begin to fall. The water would have to reach 20 feet to reach the critical stage for Des Moines and Mississippi Levee District Number 1.
- was flooding moderately at New Boston Lock and Dam 17 where flood stage is 15 feet and the water was at 19.6 feet Tuesday morning. The river was forecast to rise to 19.9 feet Thursday morning and then begin to fall.
- at Gregory Landing there was moderate flooding Tuesday. The river is expected to rise to 20.6 feet Thursday evening before it begins to fall. Flood stage there is 15 feet.
