A professional rodeo clown from Iowa was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison after he was busted for growing marijuana along farm fields in Iowa.

Prosecutors said 55-year-old Rory Meeks, from Marion, was found guilty in March 2013 of conspiracy to manufacture marijuana.  Meeks was involved in planting and growing more than 1,000 marijuana plants along corn and soybean fields in secluded locations throughout Jones County, Iowa between 2004 and 2011.

This was the second time Meeks was convicted of federal drug charges.  He was found guilty of three counts related to cocaine trafficking in 1987.

Because of the amount of marijuana involved, and because this is his second felony drug conviction, Meeks was subject to a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years in federal prison.  His sentence includes a $10,000 fine and he must also serve ten years of supervised release after his prison term ends.  There is no parole in the federal system.
