Davenport man convicted of sex crimes still faces murder-for-hire charges

A jury has convicted a Davenport, Iowa man of multiple sex crimes involving a child victim.

A jury has convicted a Davenport, Iowa man of multiple sex crimes involving a child victim.

Eric W. Weeks, 37, was convicted in Scott County District Court on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 of a half-dozen counts in connection with sexual abuse of a child that started when the child was under the age of 12 and continued after the victim turned 12 years old.

Weeks faces a mandatory prison sentence of five years for two of the counts, ten years for two of the counts and 25 years for the remaining two counts.

Sentencing was set for June 26, 2013 at 2:30 p.m.

Weeks has been incarcerated in the Scott County Jail since he was arrested for the charges in March 2012.

Weeks was also accused in February 2013 of trying to hire an undercover detective to kill a family member, in an effort to prevent that family member from testifying against him.

Weeks pleaded not guilty to those charges, and online court records show his attorney notified the court Weeks planned to claim entrapment as his defense in the case.  Trial was set for July 8, 2013 at 9 a.m.
