Flooding closes area roadways

River Drive in Davenport remained closed Tuesday from Mound Street to Oneida because of flooding.

River Drive in Davenport remained closed Tuesday from Division Street and east to the Davenport city limits.

River Drive eastbound at Marquette Street was reopened, but westbound traffic at River Drive and Marquette is expected to be closed for a few weeks.  Storms over the Memorial Day weekend caused the pavement to buckle from all the water flowing underground.

City officials said businesses along River Drive are still accessible.

Davenport crews also closed 32nd Street between Dubuque and Harrison.  Concord was also closed between Wapello and Miller.  Credit Island remained closed as well.

Moline Public Works said River Drive was not closed on the Illinois side of the river.

Officials in Bettendorf and Moline advised residents to move things out of their basements if they live in low-lying areas.

Residents living along West Garfield in Davenport were dealing with flooding for the second time in about a month.

Davenport offers special waste collection pickup for residents who have flooded basements, malfunctioning sump pumps or sanitary sewer backups.  Residents should place items in garbage bags and contact Davenport Public Works to arrange pickup at 563-326-7923.
