Memorial Day five years ago went from celebration to devastation for residents of Parkersburg, Iowa.

On May 25, 2008 an EF5 tornado ripped through the town destroying dozens of businesses, hundreds of homes, and killing several people.

Since then, rebuilding and strengthening has ensued. 20 of the 22 businesses ruined were rebuilt and 20 new businesses opened.

“How fast everybody dug in and took accountability and wanted to rebuild,” said Mayor, Perry Bernard. “It can’t make you feel more proud of a town.”
