Millions of dollars have been donated to various charities and disaster relief efforts for communities in Oklahoma, following the tornado on Monday, May 21.
A spokesperson from the Chicago Blackhawks announced the team will donate their portion of the Split the Pot proceeds raised during Game 5 of the Western Conference Semifinals vs. Detroit on Saturday, May 25. They will be donating to the “OK Strong Disaster Relief Fund.”
The Split the Pot raffle is held during each Blackhawks’ home game by Chicago Blackhawks Charities. Half of the net proceeds from raffle sales are given to the winner and the other half benefit Blackhawks Charities.
According to the American Red Cross, on Tuesday, May 21, NBA player, Kevin Durant who plays for Oklahoma City Thunder, pledged to donate $1 million to disaster relief efforts in Oklahoma.
Matching Durant’s donation, NBA Blogger, Royce Young, announced via Twitter that Oklahoma City Thunder will donate $1 million to the cause.
In partnership with Kevin Durant, from May 23 through June 15, Nike will be donating all profits from the sale of the KD V Elite- Durant’s signature shoe- sold on nike.com. Donations will be split between KaBOOM, a national nonprofit that rebuilds playgrounds and the Moore Public School Foundation.
A spokesperson from Nike announced the company will also donate footwear and apparel valued around $1 million to help communities in need via Good360– a nonprofit organization that will distribute the materials to prequalified charities.
