Genesis Health Services Foundation awarded three different types of scholarships to nurses continuing their education.

At the annual Distinguished Nurse Lecture, Amy Fox was awarded the Virginia Pilcher Scholarship of $4,000. Fox is an operating room nurse who is working toward her MSN.

Genesis gave $2,500 degree completion scholarships to more than 30 nurses employed by the health service foundation.

The DeWitt Foundation awarded a scholarship to three nurses working toward degrees.

“We’re very proud of all of our nurses who are continuing their educations for the benefit of the patients we serve,” said chief nursing executive, Jackie Anhalt.

She said studies have shown patient care is better when nurses use critical thinking skills learned through continuing nursing education.

The total amount of scholarship money given was $156,500.
