Two seniors from Augustana took part in a U.S. Marine Corps officer commissioning ceremony.

On Sunday, May 19, 2013, Alex Kurian and William Bredberg were commissioned into the U.S. Marine Corps as 2nd lieutenants, according to a spokesperson from Augustana.

Kurian is a business administration-management major and Bredberg is a double-major in political science and history.

“This commissioning is the greatest achievement in my life,” said Bredberg. “It is something I have worked for since I was a freshman at Augustana and something that I have wanted since I was in elementary school.”

The two attended a six week summer training program at the Marine Corps Officer Candidate School in Virginia.

Next for the graduates is attending The Basic School in Quantico for six months of training in leadership, land navigation, weapons, small-unit tactics, and communications.

The ceremony on Sunday marked the final transition from civilian to Marine officer.
