Tornadoes ripped through Texas around Granbury and surrounding areas Wednesday night, killing six people and leaving mountains of debris in its path. News 8’s Megan Noe and Anthony Panicucci were on the scene, recapping the damages.

The National Weather Service determined the storms Wednesday, May 15, 2013 caused EF-4 damage with winds up to 200 mph.

“The fatalities that we’re aware of happened in mobile homes,” said Dennis Cavanaugh from the National Weather Service. “People were in the mobile homes when the mobile homes were lofted well over 100 yards and then the mobile home is completely destroyed.”

State Police blocked residential areas as search and rescue efforts were in full swing on Thursday. Power companies also remained on the scene.

“There were walls that were bolted to the foundation and even some of those bolts were torn out of the concrete,” said Cavanaugh. “The damage was pretty exceptional.”
