Police: Burlington man carried 24 pounds of marijuana on a train
A Burlington, Iowa man was allegedly caught carrying more than 24 pounds of marijuana on an Amtrak train in Galesburg, Illinois.
Police said they arrested Keith G. Nash, 31, just before 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at the Amtrak Depot in Galesburg.
Nash was reportedly on his way to Burlington. At the Galesburg stop, an Amtrak worker helped police find a bag Nash had with him when he boarded the train in Naperville. A police dog gave a positive alert for the scent of drugs on the bag.
Police said they found nearly two-dozen vacuum-sealed packages containing cannabis in Nash’s bag. The packages weighed between 466 and 475 grams, or just over one pound, each. The total weight of the packages was about 24 pounds.
The street value of the cannabis was estimated at more than $48,000.
Nash was charged with cannabis trafficking and manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance. He was held in the Knox County Jail in lieu of $200,000 bond.
