Letter Carriers Food-Drive-2013

For the 21st year, letter carriers will collect non-perishable food donations as they deliver mail along postal routes Saturday, May 11, 2013.

The Letter Carriers’ Annual Food Drive is reportedly the largest single-day food drive in the U.S.  It is held the second Saturday in May in 10,000 cities across the country, and it involves about 175,000 letter carriers in all 50 states.

Letter carriers collected more than 70 million pounds of donated non-perishable food during the 2012 drive, which is also known as the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.

Carriers will take the food to local food banks, food pantries and shelters.

If you’d like to donate, they need non-perishable foods such as canned soup, canned vegetables, canned meats, canned fish, pasta, rice, or cereal.  Leave the food in a sturdy bag near your mailbox before regular mail deliver Saturday, May 11, 2013.
