Iowa Governor asks for flags to be flown half-staff Friday

Iowa Governor Terry Branstad has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff in honor of fallen officers.

According to the Office of the Governor of Iowa, on Friday, May 10, the state will be observing the Iowa Peace Officer Memorial Ceremony.

Gov. Branstad has directed the order toward all U.S. and state flags on the State Capitol Building and on the capitol Complex. Individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, counties, and other government subdivisions are also encouraged to lower their flags as a sign of respect.

The order lasts from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m on Friday.

The 30-minute memorial ceremony is located at the Oran State Office Building, Iowa Department of Public Safety in Des Moines and is open to the public. All are invited to attend and pay their respects to Iowa police officers killed in the line of duty. The ceremony begins at 10 a.m.

As National Police Week is May 12- 18, a ceremony in Washington, DC will also be held on Friday to honor fallen officers.
