Iowa native, Zach Johnson is tied for second place through the first round of the Players Championship on Thursday, May 9.

The Drake graduate began the round with a birdie at No. 1. After six pars in a row, he made three more birdies and four in a five-hole stretch with another on par 4 12th, according to the Des Moines Register.

Johnson had one bogey at the 14th and birdied 16 and 17. He shot a 6-under-par 66.

After finishing the round, Johnson was tied for second, just three shots behind leader Roberto Castro according to the PGA Tour Leaderboard.

Johnson’s 66 is just one stroke off his career best at TPC Sawgrass in 2005.

Johnson tees off in the second round at 12:49 p.m. Friday.
