Burlington woman killed in motorcycle crash

A woman died and a man suffered serious injuries when the motorcycle they were riding crashed in rural Mediapolis, Iowa.

The wreck was reported just before 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013.

Police said the pair, who are from Burlington, were traveling northbound on Highway 99 at Mediapolis Road when the motorcycle they were on left the road and went into a ditch.  The motorcycle rolled several times before coming to rest.

The driver, 25-year-old Shawn Engle, and his passenger, 32-year-old Branden Behne were both thrown from the motorcycle during the crash.

Police said Behne was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Engle was reportedly alive but unresponsive.  He was taken by helicopter ambulance to a hospital in Iowa City.
