A novelty real estate blog post says the number of cowboy boot stores, country radio stations and Walmarts nearby helped them determine what they call the “10 Most Redneck Cities in America.”

The post says the “R” word is not used negatively, and “thanks to Jeff Foxworthy with his hundreds of “you might be a redneck” jokes, the term has been adopted fondly, proudly…”

Criteria used to develop the list include the census bureau’s percentage of the city’s population that didn’t complete high school; the number of gun and ammunition stores per capita, the number of taxidermists per capita, the number of cowboy boot stores per capita, the number of country radio stations per capita, the number of nearby NASCAR tracks, the number of Walmarts per capita and the number of riding lawnmower or tractor repair shops per capita.

The city with the lowest high school graduation rate was Cleveland, Ohio.

Mesa, Arizona had the highest number of gun and ammunition stores per capita.  Mesa was also among the three cities with the highest number of taxidermists per capita, and the three cities with the most Walmarts per capita.

Nashville, Tennessee had the highest number of country music radio stations.

Arlington, Texas has the highest number of western wear stores per capita – but it doesn’t have a country music radio station in town.  Arlington also topped the list for the most lawnmower/tractor repair shops per capita.

The list says these are the top ten most redneck cities in America:

1.  Atlanta, Georgia

2. Kansas City, Missouri

3.  Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

4. Nashville, Tennessee

5. Tulsa, Oklahoma

6. Fort Worth, Texas

7. Arlington, Texas

8. Sacramento, California

9. Cleveland, Ohio

10.  Mesa, Arizona
