Iowa Governor Terry Branstad issued a disaster proclamation for another 15 counties including Clinton and Des Moines counties in our area.

The declaration is the third made by Branstad since storms and flooding caused widespread damage to homes, roads and businesses in the state.  He previously issued two disaster proclamations in April covering Cedar, Iowa, Johnson, Lee, Mahaska, Muscatine, Scott and Washington counties.

The governor’s disaster emergency proclamation activates the state’s Individual Assistance Program, which provides for state and federal emergency relief funding for affected areas.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency is expected to begin working with the state to assess  whether a presidential disaster declaration is warranted in 19 counties:  Appanoose, Cedar, Clinton, Davis, Decatur, Des Moines, Iowa, Johnson, Keokuk, Lee, Lucas, Marion, Monroe, Muscatine, Ringgold, Van Buren, Wapello, Warren and Wayne.
