The pilot of an ultralight aircraft was injured when the plane crashed near the John Deere Engine Works in Waterloo, Iowa.

The pilot of an ultralight aircraft was injured when the plane crashed near the John Deere Engine Works in Waterloo, Iowa.

The crash was reported around 2 p.m. Monday, May 6, 2013 in a field along West Ridgeway Avenue near Dewitt Road.

Waterloo Police Captain Tim Pillack said the pilot was taken to an area hospital for treatment of what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries.  The pilot was the only person aboard the aircraft.

KCCI reports the plane did not require registration, so the crash investigation is expected to be handled by local law enforcement and not by the Federal Aviation Administration.
